What It Sounds Like

All Metal shares some core characteristics: heavily distorted electric guitars, technically demanding drumming (often featuring double bass pedals for a rapid, powerful kick drum sound), and vocals that range from powerful melodic singing to aggressive shouting or growling, depending on the subgenre.

Metal is loud and designed to be heard at volume. The dynamic range is compressed so that the heaviness is maintained throughout.
